Experience
I work mostly as a storyboard artist, that is, helping stage shots directly for the director of the film. However, in my career I have also done a fair amount of single frame, finished pieces of artwork. I have worked extensively in big budget action and science fiction films, so I am very familiar with the visual effects process, and I have collaborated closely with pre-vis teams, specializing in conceiving stylized visuals and technically complex VFX shots.

My drawing style is very flexible: Please, ask me for more samples if those in here do not pertain to what you are looking for. I can do very tight artwork when required, as well as really loose thumbnails (see sample #5 here; those martial arts fights were boarded blow by blow and entailed hundreds of drawings); I can render very realistic imagery, as well as draw in a cartoony style, or do caricature. I can work on paper, and scan it, as well as directly into the computer (I can provide my own Cintiq, a 21" and a 12"). I strongly recommend to manage the boards in a computer program; there is multiple software to this end out there, but I can provide Storyboard Artist Pro, which has done the trick for me since 1999.

I hold a B. A. in Communications by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1984-89), and a Master of Fine Arts in Film Editting by the American Film Institute in Los Angeles (1991-94). My art training took place at Academia Penya in Madrid in 84-85. Since 1993, I have been combining my art and my film skills to earn a living as a production illustrator. In 1996 I joined IATSE's Local 790, Illustrators and Matte Artists, currently merged into the Art Director's Guild, Local 800. In 1999 I started a long and fruitful collaboration with director and producer McG, having worked in all of his films. In addition to helping stage shots in my capacity as a storyboard artist, I also directed a splinter unit in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, in We Are Marshall and in This Means War, as well as one of the Second Units in Terminator Salvation -- time when I joined the Directors Guild of America as a director. I also received Associate Producer credit in We Are Marshall and in Stay Alive in acknowledgment for my contributions. As a writer, I have won two literary awards for short fiction in Spain (Camilo Jose Cela award in 98 and a second place at Gabriel Aresti in 99) and I have written three feature screenplays that I am currently trying to develop. This broad trajectory allows me to bring to my illustration work a wide array of skills, from storytelling, to shot staging, or film editing, as well as my hands on experience directing shots on a set. I am a true believer in the vision of the director as the cement that holds a film together. That is why my main goal as an illustrator is always to help my director bring her or his vision to the screen, as well as to be part of the solution for everyone else.
